Trying to get into sport/action sport video games?

January 29th, 2013 2 comments

Never been too big a fan of this genre aside from ssx, and i’m trying to get into it. I put the Action Sports game at a higher priority than just sport games though. Any suggestions to get me started.

Play sports in real life and you’ll be K.

Should parents be more concerned about how much video games their kids play?

January 17th, 2013 9 comments

I see many kids that play video games all the time instead of actually getting out of the house and interacting with people… And this starts when kids are very young. Shouldn’t parents get their kids to get out of the house more
and you don’t necessarily have to tell them not to play, you could just not get the game systems for them…

My friends and family and I have always been addicted to games (whether they are board games, or puzzles, or video games…) and the only thing I can tell is, if it is an outlet, let them do it! Would you rather someone be depressed all the time, or play video games. Some people like being anti-social (Hell I was antisocial for most of my life and now I never meet a stranger…)

The main thing is, if they want to get out and do something, they will. If they don’t, let them play. Eventually someone is going to have to change. See I don’t have a problem with video games because we have always been better off playing the games (than being outside and drinking and doing drugs and having sex like most other kids when they were our age!)

And if anything, we learned strategies and tactics and skills that helped us later in life.
‘Professor of Computer Science, Maria Klavee feels video games, if not too violent, can "offer some real opportunities for puzzle solving, strategic and critical thinking". But she adds that it’s important that video and computer games are played in moderation. Klavee says parents should "provide a selection of activities, not just the ones that have the most action or are addictive. Choose some that involve problem solving or good story lines. Also aim for a balance in your child’s life. Sports are important, reading’s important. Just think of computer games as one more component in a child’s exploration of what’s out there in society."'(Source 2)

"Video and computer games will continue to be an exciting and growing part of children’s media diets. With so many good games available for children and youth, it is unfortunate that so much attention has to be paid to games which are inappropriate for all youth and harmful to some. As long as children have easy access to these games, then policy debates will continue. Perhaps those debates will be moot in the near future as both the industry and parents make sure that the children and youth of America are sold games that entertain and benefit them." (Source 1)

I wouldn’t say it’s completely healthy to play these video games; but at the same time, you can learn a lot from playing a game long enough.

I hope this has helped you.

Will we see the feminization of video games in the future?

January 3rd, 2013 18 comments

By large, modern media is pretty much "politically correct" and even feminized in certain area.

It seem like video game is one of the very few, if not the only form of media in modern society that isn’t "politically correct" and haven’t been feminized. As a gamer I’m glad, and hope that It’ll stay that way.

But will it stay that way forever? Do you feel that video games will become more feminized in the future? I really hope not.

Some games might be designed for women but boys don’t need to buy them. Boys and girls aren’t the same in general boys like action, cars, wars, and loud noise so they will make them games they like. If they want to get girls and women playing they need things females like. Wii is coming out with a weight loss game advertised to women. My niece who turned 9 today likes Wii basketball, she is really into sports like soccer and marshal arts but never played with soldiers like her brother.
Makers should target boys or girl or men or women when they make games not try to make them one game fits all. I have no interest at all in my boyfriend’s games they are noisy and fast moving like race cars.
No need to make boys and girls play the same games.

How would you rate xbox 360 game, Grand Theft Auto IV(4), on a scale of 1-10 (1 being terrible)?

It’s 19.99$ at Gamestop. I don’t have any Grand Theft Auto video games (the previous ones)

I like action, shooting, racing and even sports games.

10 that game is sick but its kind of old so not many people will play it online

What kind of video games for teenagers?

I have a 14,16 yr old girls and 13 yr old boy. What would be some good video games to buy for them? They have a playstation 2s. Any help would be appreciated!

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Probably the most well liked and popular game on the PS2.

Madden or FIFA games if they like sports.

Possibly SOCOM: Navy Seals if they like action games.

Or for less violent platformers (Mario like games) I’d suggest Jak and Daxter

Why is there always lava in video games?

December 10th, 2012 3 comments

I’ve noticed that over 15 years of gaming, there is lava in nearly very video game that I play. Is there a reason for this? The only games that I’ve played that doesn’t have lava in it is Pikmin 1 & 2. Has anyone noticed this odd trend in gaming?

Of all the games I played since the SNES all the way to the Ps3, About 75% of the games I owned has lava in it. I guess every developer of the games with lava in them think having volcanoes and fire is cool. Only games that I know that don’t have lava in them are Saints Row, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, etc. (any games made by Rockstar). A lot of sport titles (since they involve sports and not action) don’t have lava in them either.

What jobs can I expect if I major in Graphic Design?

December 3rd, 2012 1 comment

I’m a senior in highschool who decided to do Graphich Design
when I go to college. I got everything, from grades, porfolio, recommendations, the whole package. What jobs can I be expecting when I graduate with my future major?

Whatever you want to do =)

Every major company needs marketing. A friend I graduated with loves video games so much, that he lobbied hard until he landed a job as a web designer over at Blizzard. I worked in an agency that catered to Action Sports, so I was able to to work for companies like Hurley and Quicksilver. I have one buddy who like to take it easy, so he landed a design job with a corporate bank and he pretty much just drops text and images into templates. There is alot of variety in graphic design if you look for it. Good luck!

What is better between a plasma and LCD TV?

November 14th, 2012 2 comments

Shopping for a flat-screen TV. Mostly for watching regular TV channels, Movies and Sports.
Not really for Video Games.

Which has a better quality and what brand would you recommend? We are looking for about 40 in size.
Tell me more about the LED screen, I want to know all of my options before purchasing.

It used to be that plasma was the hands-down winner on fast action like sports, while LCD’s were better for bright rooms. These differences have largely gone away – and now there’s LED’S. Do some research on the web (like PC World, CNET, etc.) to read pro reviews, owner’s reviews, etc., but don’t drive yourself nuts. If possible in your area, after some research, go to a big retailer and take a look – but hang onto your budget!

No matter what you buy, you’ll probably love it. I’d also take a look at getting an extended warranty.
Take a minute to ask about HDMI cables and stuff, too. And then there’s Blu-Ray. And – oh, never mind.

I’m a happy Toshiba owner, times three.

Happy Holidays
