I need some help finding a website that has valid information about extreme sport injuries?

November 28th, 2012 1 comment

Hi,

For English 12 I need some statistics regarding extreme sport injuries (like skydiving..ect.) I need a website that has some stats about injuries..and those stats have to be valid. Thanks in advance

Daniel,
Rather than going to a web site, I suggest going to your public library. Ask for the Reader’s Guide to Periodic Literature. It may be in the form of light green books, CDs, or a web site only available to libraries depending on what your library subscribes to. It looks like the index of a book, except it covers all subjects and most periodicals. The index is the size of a thick book. It is easier to use than to explain.

If you have access to a college library, then there will be more resources available to you. Just ask the periodical or the research librarian for assistance. College libraries will also have more books dealing with this subject than school libraries or public libraries. You won’t be able to check out the books, but you can read them at the library.

If you have access to a university with a school of medicine, go to the medical library. Ask the librarian for help locating resources dealing with extreme sports injuries. You won’t be able to check out the books, but you will find a large number of resources.

Knee Pain Relief : Sports Knee Braces & Ligament Injuries – Do You Want to Survive Your Knee Pain?

June 7th, 2012 No comments

Has your knee pain driven you to find answers?

Are you looking for a way to survive the current knee pain issues that you are having?

This is an extreme scenario but maybe you can relate.

If you have recently had a knee incident you may be concerned that you have torn an important ligament? Given a choice, this is a bad dream that you would like to avoid.

If you enjoy participating in sports or just want to walk and run normally, but your knee pain is causing you to have a real problem then we suggest you read on…

One of the most common knee injuries that athletes experience is in the tearing of the ligaments that surround and support the knee. This can be a tear to the ACL, MCL, PCL, or LCL; each of these ligaments provide support. The incidental use of the word “ouch” would not describe the way you feel when something like this happens. These kinds of knee injuries can be very painful and the stability of your knee can be compromised without the strength of these ligaments.

There are 3 different levels of severity that doctors use to determine how serious your knee injury is:

Level One – There is no laxity or give in the ligaments of the knee. This indicates that there are only a few ligaments that are actually stretched / insulted around the knee.

Level Two – There is moderate laxity or give in the ligaments of the knee, which means that there are some fibers of the ligament that are torn but not all of them in the knee are torn.

Level Three – There is a complete give in the ligaments of the knee when there is stress placed on the area. This means that most likely all of the fibers in the ligament are torn and there is a significant injury that has taken place.

Depending on how bad your knee ligaments are injured, there are different treatment plans that your physician may recommend to you. Whatever level of knee injury you have, wearing a knee brace can be one of the best ways for you to help protect your knee and its structural integrity. As you can already think to yourself that it probably would be wise, to look back six months from now, wondering what you should have done differently. If you are having knee discomfort you should do something proactive to help protect yourself.

Many people think that airsoft and paintball are dangerous, but the truth is neither one of these extreme sports produces more injuries than a common club sport (ie. basketball, football, baseball, etc). If you are thinking about joining either of these sports, all the power to you. However, while both sports are safe, airsoft is considerably more intimidating than paintball. The fire rate for airsoft guns is usually around 300-450 fps. Paintball guns rarely reach 300 fps, in fact, most paintball fields have restrictions that disallow players to have a fire rate above 300 fps.

Airsoft bb’s can pierce objects, including human skin. Paintballs are designed to inflict as small amount of pain as possible. Which is why a paintball is wider, and more blunt. Because of a paintballs large surface area, the force of a paintballs impact is distributed over a larger target area. Which causes there to be less pain in one specific area.

How is massage so valuable, wholesome and useful In the Might possibly 1999 concern of Well being Wisdom for Girls, Dr. Christiane Northrop wrote a page-lengthy post entitled Why Massage is an Critical Portion of Generating Well being. She stated, I advocate massage as a effective way to make well being. Touch has been shown to be fundamental for growth, understanding, immune method functioning, mental well being, discomfort manage, and anxiety reduction in dozens of medical studies. But, when considerably investigation shows that babies have to be touched to survive and thrive, we quite often do not comprehend that older young children and adults will need common touch too. Massage is a highly properly-studied and healthful way to get the touch we will need. Let us take a appear at how massage can support many people of numerous ages.

Infants benefit significantly from receiving massage on a common basis. Massage delivers a indicates of communication with parents or caretakers, soothes and relaxes the small ones, and enhances the bonding approach. Parents can find out to massage their own babies beginning perfect immediately after birth. Gentle strokes are consistently made use of.

Growing young children benefit from nurturing touch supplied by parents along with the relaxing and soothing effects of massage. In addition, young children might possibly have precise muscular challenges triggered by sports or physical activity, or due to anxiety. Most injuries or occurrences of back and neck discomfort that appear in adulthood are essentially the result of falls or injuries sustained in childhood. So listen to your young children when they tell you of their aches and pains. Massage can relax and soften childrens tight, knotted, or sore places.

For adults, massage is most properly identified for alleviating anxiety and promoting relaxation of body, mind, and spirit. But not only does massage support an individual thrive psychologically, it can also support specific medical conditions. Elders also benefit from the touch of massage. While therapeutic massage does not enhance muscle strength, it can stimulate weak, inactive muscles and therefore, partially compensate for lack of physical exercise and inactivity resulting from illness or injury. It also can hasten and lead to a alot more total recovery from injury.

Those facing their last days also benefit from touch therapy. For example, in Boulder County, hospice workers promote the use of Comfort Touch (a gentle form of massage) to deliver nurturing and support for those going by way of the end of life transition
