What could be causing my knees to crack?

December 4th, 2012 2 comments

When I bend my knees they crack. People can hear it. It sounds gross. I have try glucosamine, but I noticed my knuckles started to look bruised. So I got concerned it was acting as a blood thinner.

Do you think I should see a sports physiologist? They don’t hurt. Btw I work out a lot.

It could be cartilage damage from a number of sources. It could also be a form of arthritis (please note this usually has associated pain) . I think it would be a good idea to go to a doctor and get an xray to check for this. It’d be cheaper in the long run than paying for physio treatment when you should be doing something else.
Another two knee problems, commen in young women are (in non science language) a condition called chondromalacia patellae where the cartilage softens and another I’ve forgotten the name of where due to misalignment… the femur rubs on the bone. Either way this website has good , easyread info… just use the links on the left.

I’d say go to a doctor before a physio and discuss ALL the possibilities. If it’s not causing you any pain, it’s likely to be minor, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Hope this helps….

Best type of medicine to go into?

July 13th, 2012 4 comments

I’m thinking about either emergency medicine, sports medicine, or hematology, but I’m really open for anything. What are some possible fields of health that are looking like they have a bright future? I would consider any medical job that requires action, a sense of making a difference, but also a job that would be secure for years to come. Thanks.

I will plug my own, forensic pathology. Good hours, pretty good pay, no insurance company hassles, some real answers, research and teaching possibilities, constant learning, incredible job security.
