How do I take clear and crisp actions shots with my nikon d3000?

December 10th, 2012 4 comments

I’m a horseback rider and like taking pictures of horses jumping at shows. I have found that indoor pictures especially are almost always blurry on the sports setting as well as most outdoors. I’m not super familiar with photography or cameras yet so sorry if this is a stupid question but i just feel like capturing clear action shots with a $600 camera should be possible and a lot easier than it has been. Thanks for all the help 🙂

The first situation to consider is the lighting–
The second situation is the subjects distance..
If your having a blur appear..you need to get closer..
You may also need to use a Shutter-Speed..of 1/500
A ZooM Lens requires more light..than a shorter Lens..
Consider shooting less ZooM..and Cropping your original..to achieve Zoom/
Large Resolution will give poor results in low light–
You might trry–>>1600 x 1200 [M3}..NOT Wide Screen..
Use a TriPod..and a Shutter-cable switch..
My camera has a 2-second TIMER–you might try that–on a TriPod..
I’ll use my 10-second TIMER on a TriPod for very difficult image capture..
But I would imagine 10-seconds would be a MISS–on all photo’s.

my name is emily and i want to do a regular sport or an extreme sport or both as the question states. well i here is the list for norm sports: lacrosse, field hockey, and here is the list for extreme sports: motocross, skateboarding(apparently extreme), well yea so. suggestions will be welcomed. and if you need any answers lemme know! plz and thank you 🙂 also if you need a photo!

hey emily. The sport that would be totally cool for a girl to do would be skateboarding and motorcross. You already see girls doing field hockey and what not but not so much skateboard and do motorcross. I myself skateboard and love it. Been skating for almost 4 years this august. So i would go for motorcross/skateboarding. But remember there’s a price to pay when doing these sport. *HINT* bone crushing, skin splitting, and whatever else

what is the best digital camera with fast shutter speed?

December 3rd, 2012 4 comments

Looking for a good digital camera. What is important to me is to be able to take pictures fast (sports etc) and not have blurry shots. Not looking to spend to much but I was thinking around $300 for a good one. The other area of a camera I like to have is the zoom option. Can you help me recommend a good one? Thanks for the help.

For freezing the action for sports (especially indoor sports) you will need a DSLR camera. Point and shoot cameras have a very small image sensor, which means they do not work well in indoor lighting without a flash, and have shutter lag between the time you press the shutter button and the photo is taken (this means you will miss most of your actions shots).

In addition, you will need a fast lens for the DSLR camera to get enough light to the camera’s sensor to allow for a fast shutter speed.

Total cost of a new DSLR body and a fast lens will be anywhere from $700-$2000. Even at the $700 range, that camera will only shoot about 3 frames per second, which is pretty slow for sports action.

What camera would you most recommend for action photos?

I am interested in buying a camera to take still photos of horses jumping, dogs jumping, and basically sport events. Do you have any ideas of what kind of camera I should be looking for or links to a good camera would be great!! thank you
x

I would recommend a medium-high end Digital SLR Camera (DSLR). A Nikon D60 will do the job. This camera takes exceptional pictures. It can seems like it stops time to take the photo.(The photos are that clear). Another plus for this camera is that it’s not hard on the wallet.

Does anyone know if SportsArc – The Premier Sports Action Film Company is legit?

September 7th, 2012 1 comment

I saw an ad on craigslist that interested me since I play sports and am loooking to dabble in acting. It seemed like the perfect marriage. The ad asked me to sign up to SportsArc. I was filling out the profile information until I rewached the end. It askes for two options to pay for their service. Either $25 for the year to post your profile with a photo or $50 for the year to post your profile , 3 photos and 1 video. Does anyone have any prior experience with this company? http://www.sportsarc.net/home.aspx

Whats the best Digital Camera out there?

July 11th, 2012 6 comments

I’m looking for a digital camera that takes awesome action shots for sports. I would also like to use it as an everyday camera. Was thinking about the canon rebel XTI anyone have any input on this. I would really like some HELP! An image stablizer would be nice, and one that will take photos in a gym without it being too dark!

You will not find any sensor based image stabilizing on Nikon or Canon DSLR’s … they do that on lenses, specifically designed for the length of the lens. The professionals that use Nikon and Canon cameras demand more performance from their cameras, so you will not see any "universal" fixes on their cameras (no one size fits all design).

That said, good photo taking techniques, fast lenses, IS or VR lenses and judicious control of ISO settings makes the success of shooting indoors higher than using a camera as an expensive point and shoot.

Next time you are watching a pro shoot an indoor sporting event, note their style of shooting and the equipment that is being used.

Has anyone had worse luck than this in fantasy sports?

July 9th, 2012 3 comments

Hello. I’m in a 12-team head-to-head league this year, and I feel I’m having one of the unluckiest seasons imaginable. Just look at all the details in the screenshot below, which highlights Week 13 action. Yes, that’s me, El Kapitan, about to lose yet again this week to go 4-9.

Anybody had worse luck in fantasy sports?

The problem here is that, going into this week, I had the 4th most points overall in my 12 team league, yet was sitting at 4-8, in 10th place. I can handle having a bad team. I can’t handle having a great team, but being plagued by unlucky matchups where I’m pitted against the highest scoring person each week. To top it off in week 13, I lose by 1. Argh!
@ Joe – It definitely works both ways in a H2H league! I hope you have continued luck through the playoffs.

I’m in a 14 team PPR head to head league, and i’m in 6th points wise, but 1st in my division ). My points are 1315 to 1281(my points and record will change Tuesday, but I’m not gonna do the math), I’m having the opposite luck you are having, but there is someone in my league who has the most points by over 100 points, who is 5-7, and in 8th overall, his score to score is, 1467 to 1456!! Sometimes you hate to be in a H2H league, but not me this year. LMAO!!! Here’s my league. (I’m Pack Attack Again87). http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/507426

Using photographs of athletes on my website legally?

June 27th, 2012 3 comments

I am building a website about action sport athletes. I would like to use pictures and photographs of those athletes. How do I know if I can use a photo or not? I can easily use images from google but I don’t want to be sued for using those pics.

Each and every picture will probably have its own copyright laws and licensing. You should check the website from which your picture comes for details.

In sports and action photography, how different shutter speed renders different types of images?

June 7th, 2012 2 comments

In sports and action photography, can you explain to me how different shutter speed renders different types of images?

It all depends on what your subject is and how fast they are moving and how fast your camera can take a photo.

For example, you will have to use a slower shutter speed for photographing, say, a horse event than a car race.
You would also have to adjust your other settings but the best place to start is by practising and experimenting.
