what is the difference between and Audio Engineer and sound designer?

January 19th, 2013 2 comments

I know about the AES and i’ve been reading up on the sound designers. I was wondering first off what is the difference between the two of them (Audio Engineers and sound designers)? What do each of them do? Are they involved in the Film, Music, Video Gaming industry? What major do I need to earn in college to work as each of them?

Thank you very much.

A Sound designer works mostly in theater and movies and yes video games, they create sounds That emphasize a particular action or event. Foley artists are sound designers in a sense. While audio engineers are the people who record the sounds created by a sound design engineer. I may be wrong but I think not, as a video producer (mostly Green screen music video) I have delt with Foley artists who have referenced themselves as sound design engineers. As far as school I can’t help you with that all I’ve learned has been in the business I started as a musician, in a one hit wonder band, toured Europe, Austraila, Canada and the USA. When the band lost popularity I had a keen interest in the studio sessions we had.I worked many years studying at home while working as a builder, slowly building my studio, learning audio and video along the way I have a small independant studio and do everything from recording local bands, video tapeing weddings and sports events, to doing music videos for cable TV and local TV stations. My advice is not to do it my way and go to school,I also had an interest in being a Foley artist that would be quite an interesting occupation

Will someone please give me some good ideas for a youtube video?

I want to make a video of me doing cool things with a lot of action.

EX: sports.

I am athletic, but I am only average at best at running, and swimming. I would like to add music, and special effects. Almost as a music video, minus the artist singing in it.

I don’t want to dub, lip sync, or do something of that nature…..so yeah, 10 points to best answer!!

Generally, if people have a good idea for something, they’ll act on it themselves. I hate to sound like a jerk, but the way to come up with a good idea for a YouTube video is not to ask people online. Don’t feel pressured to make a video right away; in time, an idea will come to you.

In order for a video to be good, it has to come from the heart. In order for it to come from the heart, it has to be a special "you" original. Okay, so maybe that’s a load of crap, but just be yourself. If people like what they see, they’ll subscribe, rate well, and leave nice comments. If they don’t, they’ll probably be complete jerks about it. Don’t let it bother you – keep on going.

Good luck in your videomaking endeavors!

P.S. Anyway, if YouTube found your video, they would probably take it down if it had copyrighted music in it, which it sounds like you want.

What are some things to make video montages of?

I want to start filming things that I can edit and make a video montage of. I’m having a hard time thinking of ideas but anything like Action Sports or things that have action in them are good.

You need a software called VideoFlick, it is a video editor, converter and sharing software, you can make video, photo sideshow, add background music to your video, or convert a video format to the one you want, add water mark to it and upload your video to Youtube, Flickr and other online video services very conveniently, or you can share it with your friends via email with VideoFlick.
You can download and try it for free from the source link.
