Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8??? How does this lens shoot?

September 16th, 2012 5 comments

To anyone who has owned a Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8, does the lack of VR image stabilization really hurt the performance when shooting sports/action/motor sports/etc.?

And overall, how does this lens perform? Seems like a no brainer compared to the 70-200mm which costs twice as much

For its cost, it is a fine lens. However, it is a Nikkor AF lens which means it will only auto-focus on better than entry level cameras.

When shooting sports/action/motor sports, you will be shooting at shutter speed of from 1/500th or faster, so VR is not necessary

Whats a good camera to get for extreme sports photography? Not gopro 600$?

August 17th, 2012 3 comments

I’m getting engaged in extreme sports photography, i want to know a good camera in the 600-700$ price range, i already own a gopro, so thats out of the question. I already plan on picking a couple more up. I just need something with clear footage and relative zoom so i can get that perfect shot!

Thanks

You can use a good entry level dSLR like the Nikon D3200 or Canon T3/1100D, but what you need is a lens like the 18-200 mm so you can get tight shots at different parts of the track or good wide shots on nearby corners.

That means that your budget is rather small for what you need for shooting any motor sports, which includes extreme sports.

I have a colleague who shoots X-Games and he uses an inexpensive Nikon D40 with a 70-200 mm f/2.8 lens and flash. With the D40, he can shoot at high shutter speeds, higher than the standard 1/200th or 1/250th second restriction of CMOS sensored cameras.

Cost wise this is the break down. A good used Nikon D40, about $350. A AF-S Nikkor 70-200 mm f/2.8, about $2,400 and the SB 800 flash, about $400

If you are planning on shooting video, then you can probably use consumer grade video camera like those made by Canon, Panasonic, JVC or Sony

Check out the action and music in this Xcorps special where after the concert Crystal talks with SwitchFoot drummer Chad Butler about the band and the cause they back called STAND UP For Kids which helps homeless kids in San Diego. Recent SwitchFoot events including the Encinitas Bro Am pulled in over 200K for the national charity!

After that Crystal thros to a flashback interview that Xcorps producer Stu Edmondson did with SwitchFoot not long after they formed the group in 1999. Check out Chad and Tim Foreman being interviewed by local surf chick Swami Sandi at the now defunct Café East E in Encinitas. Kind of like seeing your yearbook photos!

Is Directv Truly the Leader in Sports Programming

June 1st, 2012 No comments

If you are primarily interested in sports programming, then what DirecTV has to offer in their Total Choice series of programming packages is worth taking a very close look at. Like all of the other programming service providers, DirecTV caries quite a few less than premium sports channels and these channels are where you are going to find some of the more obscure sports programming from all over the planet.

There is nothing wrong with these types of channels that feature this level of sports programming and a lot of what they feature is quite entertaining. Premium sports channels however; are where you are going to find al of the popular professional and top ranked college and amateur level sports programming. Pro football, rodeo, baseball, basketball, international soccer, all NCAA sanctioned sports, Boxing and all forms of full contact fighting, all forms of motor sports and racing, extreme sports and base jumping and the list goes on and on.

DirecTV has twenty-five premium sports channels for their family of viewers to select from and this is more premium sports channels than any other service provider in the business. This level of premium sports programming is not inexpensive to procure on the open market for their subscribers and this is why only DirecTV carries the amount that they do.

DirecTV also is the leader in subscribers with well over twelve-million viewers and that number continues to grow day by day. This is the main reason that DirecTV can afford to bring the quality and the quantity of sports programming to their viewers that they do. DirecTV even has some sports programming channels that you can’t get from any other service provider, because only DirecTV has exclusive broadcasting rights to these channels.

They are both what would be referred to as ultra-premium sports channels and they are both truly one of a kind sports programs. One is called NCAA Mega March Madness and it specializes in NCAA sports and it is also produced in conjunction with the NCAA. The other ultra-premium sports channel that DirecTV features is NFL Sunday Ticket and it is the one channel where you are going to find the best NFL programming that is available.

The NFL Sunday Ticket channel for instance, features all of the regular and preseason NFL games right up through the final Super Bowl game. This channel also features some of the best action that the European Football League has to offer from across the Atlantic. With NFL Sunday Ticket you also get a front row seat to all of the special events that the NFL puts on such as their charity and celebrity events and contests.

This channel also has a steady stream of one on one interviews with all of the most controversial and top players in the game of pro football. The great thing about these two special sports programs that DirecTV carries is that they can even be added to their base level economically priced programming packages, so you can get the highest level, of sports programming that is available and still stay within your budget with DirecTV.

Online Sports Casino

May 20th, 2012 6 comments

Online Sports Casinos, popularly known as online sportsbooks, are increasingly becoming popular with gamblers who want to place their bets on different sports. The bets can be placed on Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Motor sports, Golf, Ice hockey, Horse Racing, Rugby, Skiing, Tennis, Snooker, Cricket and other sports. The minimum and the maximum bet amount that can be wagered depend on the type of sporting event.

There are certain rules of sports betting that have to be understood by every gambler. No action will be recorded on the sportsbook if the sporting event is postponed by 12 hours, is rescheduled or is not played on the scheduled date and time. Winners will be determined after the conclusion of the day’s event. Reversal of the results or suspension of games will not alter the results declared in the sportsbook. Bets submitted by gamblers should appear in the list of Pending Wagers to enable them to participate in the bet.

All reputable Online Sports Casinos offer convenient money transactions. They support the payment and withdrawal of money through various money transfer services, such as NeTeller, Firepay, 900 pay and Citadel. The recent change in banking procedures has, however, made credit cards a less favorable means of transacting money.

There are many fly-by-night operators who pack up and start a new site as soon as their fraudulent practices become public. So, while choosing an Online Sports Casino, it is important to verify whether they have a government license to run the business. Find whether the sportsbook has been in existence for more than 3 years. Suggestions from other players and reputable gaming portals should be welcomed, as their experience can help to find a reputable Online Sports Casino. Gamblers should be wary of any Online Sports Casino that lures them with high bonuses. Sign-up bonuses in a reputable sportsbook may vary from 10% to 25%. Check with every Online Sports Casino to see if it mentions its official address on its website, and offers 24/7 customer service either by toll-free telephone, email or live chat.

Some states and countries have passed laws making Online Casino Gambling illegal. Therefore, before you gamble at an Online Casino, it is important that you.
