Ye, like TANDEM MASTER, SKYDIVING INSTRUCTOR, etc. but you gotta be good, before you get paid for it…

If competition is wrong then are these things wrong and if so what can we do to eliminate them from our lives?

This question is in response to an answer I got on a previous question (the above link). Tell me what you think.

If competition is wrong then is it wrong to play sports, compete for a job interview, American Idol, video games, card/board games, etc.?

My answer is this, however I’d like to hear Answers users ideas on this topic.

What are the positive things and negative things that happen during each action?

Sports…how many raves and players getting shot have occurred because of competition. How many home disputes have been over someone watching sports to much?

Interviews…how many times have you stepped on people’s toes just to make sure you’re hired?

American Idol…how many people are belittled all in the name of competition? Is this healthy as a society?

Video games…how many people try to commit acts of crime because a video game displayed it?

Games…family/friend disputes?
Is technology more important than your relationships with people or God (if you believe in Him)?

Competition is not wrong in itself. It depends on the side you choose and the reasons for why you choose those sides. Let’s take your examples one by one.

Sports:

This is not wrong for the players because they are simply having fun. Plus any fans are just supporting their teams so it is not wrong. The sin could come in if you think competition gives you the right of way to start cursing. Cursing is a sin, competition isn’t. So just be careful with how you do things.

Job Interviews:

How can people get a job if they can’t compete? Competition here is not wrong but yet again it is the context as to what you do during the interview. If you are bad mouthing another person to get the job then that is wrong. However if you simply are presenting yourself the best you can then it isn’t your fault if they hire you and not somebody else and vice versa. So competition here is not wrong yet again.

American Idol:

I don’t particularly like this show myself, but it’s not wrong in itself for the contestants. The contestants simply are doing the same as the job interviewers. They are trying to be the American Idol and make it in the music business. Yet again, if they are talking bad about someone else then it is wrong. However, if they are simply trying to present themself to the world, then it is okay.

Video games:

This is another thing I’m not much of a fan of. I’d rather be outside doing productive activities then play games. However, video games and board games can bring people together. If you are simply playing to have fun with a friend or family member it doesn’t matter because you’re just having fun. If you are doing something bad then it is wrong.
