Why are videos that are supposed to be in public domain being removed claiming copyright?

January 3rd, 2013 1 comment

I’m specifically talking about the video of Ara Abrahamian jumping down the podium and throwing his bronze medal on the floor.

As distasteful as his actions were, they are most definitely videoworthy and now seems like video sites like You Tube have removed the video claiming copyright, and on another site, it says it can only be viewed in Sweden.

What is this?

Are there any video sites that are free from copyright entanglements these days?

The televsions networks pay huge amounts of money for the rights to the games. Any unauthorized use of their images is not allowed. You will here and see an anouncement about this at the end of most televised sporting events.

Better yet, don’t try sports authority! Go online! I love Action Village, ANSGear and Paintball-online. Check for last years jerseys and whatnot. I have several pairs of $40 gloves that cost less than $5, 5-10 jerseys, and pants the same!

How did paintballing start and catch on as a sport?

tdcassick1 is right. Paintballs/markers were originally designed to paint cattle and trees at a distance. The color of the paint would determine what action would be taken for the marked object.

Guys being guys they started shooting eachother. This grew in popularity and eventually evolved into the original "survival" games. Progress took this to "woodsball" and woods tournaments then into field tournaments. It’s continued to progress since.

The original paintballs were much harder than the ones today and really hurt when they hit you. They were filled with an oil based paint that rarely came out of clothing, or off skin, without turpentine or some other paint thinner. When I first started the pump pistols were the main markers, though semi auto markers were making it on the scene. It cost $50 to play at the indoor range and this got you the marker rental, the goggles (no full masks, just goggles), 2 ten round tubes of paint (plus the one in the marker), and 2 12g CO2 cartridges. If you wanted more they ran approximately $5 for a ten round tube of paint and $3 for a 12g cartridge.

Do you think is better to concentrate on a video game genre?

Do you think is better to concentrate on a video game genre or do you think is better to play all video game genres?

For example my favorite video game genre is action, do you think I should also play Adventure, Role-Playing, Strategy, Puzzle, Driving, Simulation, Sports, etc video game genres or should I continue playing my favorite video game genre which is action?

Thanks.

I think it is better to play whatever you want to play. I happen to play — and make — a wide variety of games, all of which I love.

I just got a Nikon D40 with the 18-55/55-200 lenses. What settings should I use to stop indoor sports action?

August 14th, 2012 4 comments

I am a real novice. Only used a point and shoot before, so please don’t get too technical on me. I’m trying to shoot indoor volleyball. I bought the camera to eliminate the shutter lag, but now what?

You should find yourself using the 55-200mm lens more often than the 18-55mm. The 18-55 is useful for wide shots of the game and the crowd but will do little to bring in any action.

Since the lenses you have aren’t very fast (open the aperture as wide as possible) and the games are indoor you’ll either need to use a flash or a higher ISO (ISO 800+ should be adequate). Keep the shutter speed as fast as possible to minimize blur. The pop-up flash is nice but will not help you at a distance. I’d suggest buying a Speedlight or a cheap slave at the very least.

If you have no idea what I’ve just said, just use the sports scene mode and the camera should automate everything for you to the best of its ability.

The games usually have the system requirements written on the back of the game to ensure the customer is buying a game that will be able to run well on the computer.

How much should I sell my digital images for?

June 19th, 2012 3 comments

I am an amateur photographer and have started selling my digital photos, after years of family and friends telling me I should! Mostly Action Sports pics. Now several people have asked to buy the "digital images" from me. I mean basically they will be able to order and or print their own pics, defeating the purpose of me coming to the event and photographing them. Don’t get me wrong, I never buy from photographers either! I always have taken my own pics of my kids/family. I bring my camera everywhere. But the thing is, I was there with my camera and took the pic. How much should I sell them for? I mean if they don’t buy the prints, then what would I do with them anyway? But then again, if I just give them away, what am I doing this for?
I’m sorry, I really didn’t make that clear. It is the person/s who are in the picture that want to purchase it. I get invited to sporting events, usually by the coaches or parents, I photograph the games and am trying to sell the pics to the parents.
Also, what makes any pic I take copyrighted? Do I have to do anything?

Obviously I am new at this (lol) and appreciate any advice! Thanks!

I don’t really understand who is wanting to buy your image.

You need to understand about copyright law in this circumstance. Will you be selling the copyright to this person, which means they will own the image?

PETA Protesting Mario? SERIOUSLY!?

June 19th, 2012 25 comments

Jon discusses PETA’s (People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals) protest over Nintendo’s new 3DS game, “Super Mario 3D Land” in which Mario once again as the ability to don a fur suit known as the Tanooki power-up… which they claim sends the wrong message about using animal skin as clothing. Later, they tried (pathetically) to claim the entire stunt, and their insulting flash-based online game, was all a joke.
