Understanding Sports Massage
Massage is recorded as one of the earliest forms of physical therapy and it is known that it was used by very different cultures over 3000 years ago. It is only in the much more recent past since travel and communications have enabled different civilizations to meet that so many forms of massage have been developed. People are raving about massages and anything that goes with it. That also included sports massage. But what is sports massage?
Technically speaking, sports massage is a powerful therapeutic technique in a range of compression and stretching techniques is applied to the body’s muscle and connective tissues. It is used to great effect in the rehabilitation of all soft tissue dysfunction ranging from sport-related injury to aches and strains caused by everyday activities, such as working, lifting and gardening. Sports Massage is a special form of massage and is typically used before, during, and after athletic events. The purpose of the massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries.
Spots massage gives way to flexibility and a wide range of movement. It promotes faster recovery from injuries and assists through early detection of muscles dysfunction. Spots massage can be done before, during and after event and aids in the rehabilitation treatments. With its health benefits lots of sports players and coaches have been using this to enhance their performance and helps prevent injury.
Everyday, we exert lots of effort, sometimes even straining every inch our body to do a simple thing. Each of our movements can give damage to our muscles and tissues, although some may be just very minor ones, some can go to extreme damages. It has already been widely known that massage has its health benefits and usefulness. And with the addition of the healthy effects, one should really make massage a regular part on one’s life.
Sports massage has many benefits. In addition to FEELING GOOD, sports massage reduces the heart rate and blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, reduces muscle tension, improves flexibility, and relieves pain. Each sport and athletic event uses muscle groups in a different way. Sports Massage can also include pre-event, post-event and maintenance techniques that promote greater athletic endurance and performance, lessen chances of injury and reduce recovery time.
Each sport and athletic event uses muscle groups in a different way. Sports massage therapists must be familiar with each muscle, the muscle groups and how they are affected by the specific movements and stresses of each sport. They also are trained in the appropriate uses of hydrotherapy and cryotherapy.
Traditional western (e.g. Swedish) massage is currently the most common approach used for conditioning programs. It is frequently supplemented by other massage therapy approaches including deep tissue, trigger point work, and acupressure. Some massage therapists have special training in sports massage and greater experience working with athletes.
Contraindications are conditions when you should not be massaged. The most common condition among athletes is that of an acute injury or inflammation. Usually the first 72 hours after an injury are the acute stage. After the swelling and pain begin to diminish, massage is indicated.

Would you be angry if your wife got a massage from a male masseuse and didn't tell you?
The love of my life just bought me a great gift of a spa afternoon. He mentioned that he hoped I enjoyed the massage from the girl who runs the salon, and I told him the masseuse there is male. I had one massage from him a couple months back and never told my husband that it was a guy (because I knew that might upset him). When I got the massage, I didn’t know the masseuse was going to be a guy, nothing uncomfortable/inappropriate happened during the massage (he’s a sports masseuse who also works for a local pro team), and I never went back to him.
Now my love is furious that A.) I let another man touch me and didn’t refuse the massage, B.) that I never told him about it.
I understand that I shouldn’t have been chicken to tell him and have apologized profusely, but I do feel he’s over reacting and also being a little unfair considering he’s gotten lap dances when he’s gone out with the guys in the past.
I’d tell him to get over it, I AM going back to the masseuse and if he doesn’t like it, too damn bad.

You have nothing to apologize for especially if he can go out and get a lap dance. A massage at a spa isn’t sexual or meant to turn you on in any way a lap dance is. If any thing you should be up set with him…

Heh…talk about double standards, tell him to "suck it up princess" if he can get lap dances, u can get massages. Your side of the deal isn’t even sexual.
If I was you i’d be suspicious why he gets so severly jelous over this situation, he might be doing stuff behind your back extra at stripper joints and suspects you of foul play as well since thats his style.

Its a professional massage. Your husband is over reacting.
Now if it was a erotic massage he would have something to whinge about.

He’s a jerk! He can justify lap dances but you can’t get a massage from a trained professional masseuse? Whats next, your male gynecologist must go? How old is this guy, 20?
References :
He is being unreasonable and totally ridiculous. Many many married women get massages by male massuses and there is nothing wrong with it. He is overreacting and it makes me wonder what it is that he has done that makes him think you did the same? I think he doth protest too much if ya get my drift.

God forbid you OBGYN is a male…, he is over reacting,,way to much,,you haven’t mentioned that he is jealous,,tell him now you are even for the nasty bytches he let rub their dirty coochies on him, when all you did was get a Professional massage.. Then let him know, you don’t like the insecure hypocrites,,,you could also ask, why is he so irritated, did something more than a lap dance go on with him?
References :
yeah he’s be overreacting, especially if he gets lapdances and stuff. The proper thing to do would’ve been to turn told the masseuse you thought it was gonna be a woman and turned it down, but since nothing inappropriate happened and it’s not like you had any bad intentions, whatever. Would I want some rando guy touching my wife like that? No. But I wouldn’t get lapdances either.
References :
He’s being ridiculously insecure by getting mad at you for this. You need to tell him that he needs to trust you.
References :
While I do understand where he’s coming from, he is being a complete hypocrite if he is having lap dances.
Tell him you won’t be having anymore male massages if he won’t be having anymore lap dances.
References :
You have not done anything wrong. The male masseuse was only doing his job and you did not know that there was going to be a male. Your husband sounds like he could be jealous. If it is okay that he has lap dances done then you should also get mad about that.
References :
Considering the "lap dance" episode, I think he’s really "over reacting" to say the least! Of all people to make a mountain over a mole hill, he’s sure one of them. You have NO reason to feel bad about not "mentioning" it to him, not considering he does lap dances & you’re suppose to "like" them? He’s acting like a child over this whole episode. Forget it, hope it felt GREAT, & that you enjoyed it as much as he enjoyed his "lap dance". Don’t sweat the "small" stuff, & this IS small…:)

quote: "Would you be angry if your wife got a massage from a male masseuse and didn’t tell you?"
Yes……political bullshit aside, chemistry between men and women knows no boundaries.
If she didn’t tell me, that means the massage experience would have meant something more to her than it should have and she felt guilty.

i love my wife. I also love transparency in a relationship. Competition is foolishness.
Yes, I’d be upset. But then we’d get over it. Nothing serious to harp about. It’s just nice to keep the relationship transparent at all times and don’t allow any footholds for suspicion and jealousy to come in. Lap dances on the other hand….was this while you were married? That would definitely be not allowed in my book. In fact, I might even just start a new book!

First of all thanks for the people that get massage is not a sexual thing, that if the work is good then it doesn’t matter what gender gave the massage unless there are other issues.
No, your husband is being totally unfair. YOU have nothing to apologize for. He on the other hand……it’s really hard not to judge him BUT let me say that I really find the lap dance pretty yukky…..it’s pseudo sex and I find that troubling in society much less in a relationship.
However…..you should have told your husband, especially knowing it might upset him that the therapist was male. You didn’t and aside from upsetting him I suggest you figure why you didn’t tell him.

Your story makes me want to say: "What’s good for the goose."
You’re right and he’s over-reacting. Your question/statement to him might go something like this:
"Where’s the maturity and trust? To be honest, your predictable reaction is exactly why I avoided telling you, as I didn’t want you to obsess or feel hurt. Believe me, there was no ‘happy ending’. I regret not telling you and I’ve apologized. I will appreciate your acceptance and your acknowledgment of over-reacting. After all, we have a shared relationship here! Aren’t we partners? And by the way, we don’t really need talk about the double standard of what happens when you go out with the guys, right? So maybe it’s time that you lighten up."
Eventually, he’ll have to agree and buy you flowers. Enjoy your massage!
