What’s a good camera to buy to get decent sports action shots?
I run www.kcsportsleagues.com and am in the market for a camera that can handle taking pictures of people playing sports. I’m on a tight budget so the cheaper the better.
Canon 7D, 8 frames per second. Canon 1DMiv 10 frames per second. They aren’t cheap but you did say decent.
the best would be the Nikon D3s with a good 400mm lens or so. Total price is around $15000
what exactly is your budget? for sports, you might want a bridge camera, so look at the Nikon P500 and Canon SX30 IS, both around $400

The best would be a dSLR. The focal length of the lens you would need will depend on how far away you are from the action and close you want to get without being actually there. I’d say around 300mm would do fine for team sports and 200mm would be fine for doubles and singles.

I am not a Sony fan, but Sony SLT A55 can take upto 10 frame per second, and costs around 600USD. The other cameras with 10fps are Nikon D3x and Canon 1d Mark IV, they each cost around 6000USD.

Very pleased with Canon PowerShot SX130IS camera overall and consider it to be a steal for all that you get with it – especially with the 12x zoom. Highly reccomended for both casual and advanced photographers alike. I think camera delivers what it promises. It doesn’t pretend to be small, but it gives you the versatility of AA batteries and, if you know how to use it, takes excellent pics. It turns on in a fraction of a second and is ready to use. The weight of the camera makes it more stable when holding, with less shake. If you grade it in it’s category, it is a great camera!
