Sports Betting: What it Means for People

What is sports betting all about?

Some folks play for the money and when they win, it’s really nice. Some people don’t really care about taking home a nice profit, though. Instead these players play for the rush of the bet. They put their money on the line because of the feeling that they get when the game is close.

It is a normal thing for sports betting to drive some people. After all, when players are in the “action”, as bettors call it, they get a rush of adrenaline and they have excitement that can’t be matched by too many other hobbies. Perhaps a player has gotten a professional tip on a game and he is laying down big money on one side or another? When this is the case, the game will be the single most exciting event of the day for that person. His blood pressure will rise and his heart will start beating out of his chest. The emotions range from excitement to fear to pure exhilaration.

If you have ever had money on a game after you took a free pick, then you know all about these feelings. It doesn’t matter if you are paying for the advice or if you are getting football tips free of charge. The feeling remains the same when you are in the action and your game is on television. It is the type of rush that can make an otherwise boring game into an incredibly exciting event. For many players, this is the primary draw of sports betting. It makes each and every game much more interesting and gives players a reason to watch all of the games.

The feeling is a little bit like the high that a junkie might get from a drug. Sports betting won’t physically damage the body like a drug will, but it will certainly give a person the chance to elevate their excitement and raise their heart rate a little bit. When the bet is a winner and the money is coming to your side of the counter, the feeling of exhilaration is even greater. If you don’t happen to come out on top and at a point in the game you realize that you have picked a loser, there is still a rush involved in that. All in all, sports betting itself provides the type of rush not seen in any other hobby.

When it comes to betting on sports, what does the over/under mean?
I know nothing about betting on sports, obviously. I hear people say they took the lions +3, and Vikings -7, or whatever. What the hell does that mean exactly? Also when they say over or under, what does that mean? If you can give me examples that would help too

if the lions are +3 then they either have to lose by 2 or less or win for you to collect
over and under are usually the total points of a game and you bet on less or more than that number

For Over / Under Betting the bookie sets a total for a game (meaning total number of points they think we be scored in the game by BOTH teams combined) and the bettor can either bet on the Under (if he thinks there will be less points scored than what the total for the game is set at) or the Over if he thinks there will e more points scored.

I wrote an article about this exact topic because so many people ask the same question about common sports betting terms and how to read the odds/lines. This is like a ‘for dummies’ explanation that is very easy to follow http://www.Sportsbook-Ratings.net/sports-betting-for-newbies

    In short,
+3 means the Lions can lose by up to 2 points (or win outright) for a wager on the Lions to win
-7 means the Vikings must WIN by more than 7 points in order for a wager on the Vikings to win
If a result is exactly the same as the number (say Lions lose by 3) then all wagers on that game will be refunded.

Over / Under is the proposed number of total points of both teams added together. You can bet that the final score will be OVER or UNDER that number. If the score ends up being exactly that number, all wagers are refunded.
