How’s it working in the action sports apparel industry?

I’m a graphic designer looking for work in the Action Sports industry (Quiksilver, Volcom, Nixon, etc…). I’ve been looking for work as a Creative Director or Marketing Director but am concerned about this industry (highly competitive, high turn-over rate…) Malakye.com seems pretty useless too. Can anyone share their experiences working in this field?

Have you considered sports marketing? I hear it is a fascinating industry.
