I want a stand for my Canon Rebel XSI, that only has one leg for sports photography?
I don’t know what its called or where to find one! It’s like a long pole thing, lots of people use it to take action shots at football games and stuff, its for my birthday so i’d appreciate your help!

I never use one because you can’t follow the action very well. Unless you ae shooting at a very high shutter speed like 1/1000 of a second
or higher.

Don’t get the cheap crap at Walmart or Target or Best Buy. Seriously. They will barely hold a little pocket camera.
You need to go to a photo store. A real one. With your XSi, I would suggest a Bogen model 679 or 680 monopod. The difference is the 679 is a three section unit, the 680 is a four section unit. The 680 will collapse much shorter than the 679. Either will hold your camera, lens, and flash if you use one, without any problem.

You may or may not want a head on the monopod. I use a ball head on my Bogen 681, but I prefer it that way. Some people don’t. If you attach the camera directly to the monopod, you can’t really move it much. That’s fine if you are just shooting a football game, but for general use, it really limits how you can move the camera. That’s why I like the ballhead. Something like this, with a quick release, is what you want…

Don’t get a cheap monopod! It will collapse as soon as you put any pressure on it. If you have to get the ‘pod now, and the head later, that’s fine. You’ll appreciate the head more that way.
There are other brands, like Giottos and Gitzo, but they cost more, and the Giottos weighs a LOT more.
