Are nikon d40s good for action photography?
I have to do action photography for my art project. I chose to do lacrosse. Would you reccommend me using a nikon d40 or a fujifilm.
Of course. The D40 has a 1/4000th second shutter speed. I shot sports and action using cameras with a 1/1000th shutter speed for years with manually focusing lenses. The D40 shutter is four times faster and auto-focus.

Yes. The shutter speed is much, much faster than anything you’ll likely be stopping, and Nikon makes a great range of lenses that can accommodate the beginner and pro alike.

The Nikon D40 has a good shutter speed, but it has limited frame speed compared to other DSLR’s as it only shoots at 2.5 frames per second and if your shooting Raw then you can only shoot 9 frames before you have to wait till the buffer memory clears.
The big advantage the Nikon has over the Fuji is shutter lag, it’s almost impossible to time the exact moment when a camera has shutter lag, the Nikon is as fast as any other DSLR in other words almost instant.

Yes it is a fine camera for action photography. As the others have said it has a very fast shutter speed. I would suggest that you use a good fast lens (F2.8) though.
