Questions about Paintball guns?

I’m new to paintball and was thinking about buying this http://www.amazon.com/Spyder-Victor-Paintball-Marker-MEGA/dp/B002FY9136/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1269848425&sr=8-1 and how do you know if its semi automatic, automatic, and I’ve also heard about something like bolt action, what the heck is that, does that mean you have to cock it every time? For this gun what would it be?

thanks

okay so here it is spyders are strong reliable guns.

however they are not known has high end markers.

this gun is a mechanical trigger and it is semi automatic. . .

when you are looking at a spyder gun this is not the one you want. . . go with a higher end spyder for 160 bucks you can get a spyder electra and it is a great gun shoots fast looks good. . . but you will spend double of what the victor will cost you. . . so if you dont want to spend that much then you should buy a spider pilot.

so check this gun out. . . it will be better in every aspect when u are talking about paintball do not go to cheap and the victor is a cheap gun.

here is the link. http://www.amazon.com/Spyder-Pilot-09-Paintball-Gun/dp/B00261CW02/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1270132683&sr=1-4

i know it is not a kit. . . but u can ball all the other equipment you will need at your nearest paintball proshop or wallmart.

This is kingmans basic marker it is semi automatic. It is an ok marker but not that good. I would recommend either a pmi piranha or autococker. Piranha’s and autocockers are a lot better quality then the spyder markers and they use industry standard fittings so getting parts for them and upgrading them are easier and cheaper.

Spyders are ok markers and a lot of people own them because they are cheap. Problem is kingman just does stuff that will drive you up the wall. Kingman uses metric fittings. Well kingman is the only one to use metric fittings while everyone else uses 1/8" threads for hose lines. So finding parts is harder and costs more. Also the build quality is ok but most of the spyder clones like pmi piranha’s and azodins have a lot high build quality for the same price.

Here is a vid on spyders you should watch.

Bolt action isn’t common in paintball. Bolt action is common in real guns while paintball you have either markers that cock the bolt atomaticly either using an electronic system or air. Or you have pump markers that you have to slide a pump handle to cock the marker and load a paintball into the chamber.
The victor is a blow back style marker that has a valve that fills with co2 or air and when you pull the trigger the bolt slides forward and the valve releases the co2 or air to drive the ball and the left over co2 or air is blown back at the bolt to slide it back and recock it. If your velocity is to low or you tank is low on co2 or air then your valve will not have enough power to recock the marker.

That particular marker is only semi-automatic. As for bolt action.. just means the bolt is doing something. You dont have to cock it every time, the only thing close to that are pump guns (and those are fun!) But i’d recommend against getting that package, as everything on it is pretty bad. First start off with renting, then get a mask, then get a hopper, then get a tank (compressed air or hpa, dont do co2), then by that point you should know what kind of gun you want. But stay away from spyders and smart parts guns (as smart parts has gone out of business, and spyder markers aren’t very good) also dont worry about if its semi or auto, as most fields will make you use semi anyways (the only way you’ll get auto is if you get an electronic marker). But once you buy all that (trust me, do it that way its much better) you should have a good enough knowledge of markers to make an informed decision, or you may meet someone who is willing to sell you a good gun for cheap. But if you still dont know what kind of gun to get, you cant go wrong with azodin markers, or used high end markers (as long as you buy from someone you know is reputable). I wish when i started playing i had done all this, i would be where i am today much faster (sponsored tournament player, with alot of hands-on experience and a team).

Good luck and have a great time paintballing!

edit: I would also recommend against getting any autococker marker made after 2005, that’s when the company started going downhill.

I’ve owned both spyder and smart parts markers (which most new players start with), and i regret ever getting them. I now shoot a bob long vice.
