I revere Eleanor Roosevelt for the work she did in the Roosevelt administration. Hickok called Eleanor "The Relunctant First Lady." Eleanor had a full life in New York and gave it all up to move to Washington with her husband. She was FDR’s eyes and ears when he couldn’t travel. She represented his administration in many settings. She wrote a regular newspaper column. Truman named her a delegate to the newly created United Nations. She was one of the founders of the Americans for Democratic Action.
Since her husband found his pleasure in so many other places, who cares where she found hers? Whether in relationships heterosexual or homosexual, platonic or not, so what?
I don’t think of Eleanor Roosevelt at all. And her alleged lesbian affair did not damage this nation; unlike the policies of that idiot husband of her’s.

Also, most people don’t mention that she was her husband’s cousin, which is why her maiden name was also Roosevelt.
FDR turned this USA into a welfare state, creating Social Security which was originally supposed to be an optional retirement fund, but was merged into the general fund to finance wars. Next came the medicare, medicaid, foodstamps and many other entitlement expenses all orchestrated by the Democrats.

First, the lesbian affair has never been proven.
Second the Eleanor was over 50 years old when the supposed lesbian affair took place. This is hardly the peak of one’s sexuality and a not a time of sexual experiment. At this age most people are giving their libidos a rest.
Third Eleanor had never shown evidence of being attracted to girls before, during or after her marriage to Franklin. It could be that they were just good friends. Women tend to develop more intimate relationships than men do. This isn’t sexual, its emotional. Sometimes its difficult for men to understand this.
Fourth Roosevelt and Hickok were friends for 36 years. That’s a close relationship but not a lesbian one. I have a friend I’ve known for 35 years and its been close but never been sexual.
