My son doesn’t like sports/other activities boys should like? Should I be worried about him being homosexual?

I bought a lot of action figures and sports equipment for my 7 year old son, but he greatly prefers drawing or painting landscapes, people, animals, etc to either of those activities. I also met with his teacher and she unfortunately told me he was the most creative kid in her class.

I hope it isn’t because he is gravitated towards a preverted lifestyle. I really don’t want my son growing up in sin , what can I do to curtail this kind of behavior and have him grow up to be normal so that he will be heterosexual and have a real job instead of an artist, which I can never accept?
Another thing to mention is that we have tried to take away a lot of the drawing material from him so that he can focus on the sports equipment, but then he just gets upset over this. How can we make sure that he doesn’t ask for these things all the time?

BAKA! BAKA BAKA BAKA! I am a male and a artist. a culinary artist but still an artist. the best artists in history were all male. but just because I am a artist does not mean that I am gay. I am NOT gay at all. I see that life style as a SIN aganist my GOD. let your son be an artist.

I have an uncle that is a great composer/musian in NY, that is a form of art it self. if your son wants to go into the feild of art then let him.

you are one of the worst BAKAs I have ever heard of.

Being creative is a great thing! This can be encouraged! There are many careers for creative people other than artists. He could be an architect, or a teacher. His interests are not necessarily indicative of his sexual orientation. There are many gay men into motorcycles and straight men into designing dresses. Encourage him to be himself, and he will grow up into a confident young man.

this is one of the stupidest question i have seen in a long time. why did you even have children if you are not going to accept them for who they are and what they want to be in life. the kid is 7 years old! what they like to do now is no indication of how or what they are going to do in the future. at that age my jump rope and i were inseparable and now i haven’t touched one in 20 years. i feel sorry for your child that they have such a narrow minded person as a parent.

Don’t worry about that yet. Unless he likes Ballet, he is not gay. Ever heard of Vincent Van Gogh….He wasn’t gay! Or Romero Britto, he’s not gay either. What about Pablo Picasso? Not Gay! And Monet?…Not gay! The point is, the proffession a person has, does not determine thier sexuality. Just because your son does not like Football or Soccer or Baseball, does not mean he’s gay. And if he is, then you will need to respect, and accept that. I hope when your son grows up, he moves very far away from you! And he can still have some confidence after you destroy it all!

    EDIT:
Ok…I did not know it had gone this far? WTF LADY? Man, hes a kid for petes sake, Let him do what he wants, why do you take stuff away from him…You should be proud! Would you like it if I go, you are not feminine enough, I want you to be a Ballerina from now on. And I start taking away your computer and cellphone and PDA…And replace them with Tutus, Leotards, and Ballet shoes. How would that make you feel? Well that is how your son feels!

First of what WTF lady!!! What kind of parent makes such judgemental statements about a child of SEVEN!!!!!!! Because he isn’t a rough and tumble boy doesn’t mean he will be homosexual. You DON"T learn to be a homosexual, you either are or you aren’t. WIth a parent like you I just hope he moves FAR away from you when he can. Being an artist is a perfectly respectable job. YOU need to examine yourself before you go looking at your poor son. Damn woman give the kid a break. I’d say you spend WAY TOO MUCH TIME with that Bible and at your church. Take your head out of there long enough to learn about the world. Mom to 3.

I’m not sure why you think creativity is a big problem. Your child could use his artistic skills to become an engineer. Would that be a problem for you? Or does he have to grow up to be a tow truck driver, football player, or some other "jock" type job to please you. I think that it is very sad that your child is going to grow up knowing that your live for him depends on how "manly" he his.
I think it is even sadder that some people are going to take your question seriously and think that you are asking a real question.

im sorry but i think you are very very narrow minded. if he likes that sort of thing it does not mean he will be homosexual. in the long run does it even matter. if he is going to grow up and be good at art then get over it. stop trying to live through your son, let he be who he really is and dont try and force him to change. accept him, even if he does happen to become homosexual when he is older, their is nothing wrong with homosexuals, i even think they are so much nicer and more fun to be around than straight men:)

All you can do is love him for being who he is. He is still young and is still changing. My partner loved painting and ballet when he was 7 and he’s not gay. Let your son grow up to be whoever he is going to be – whether its what you would like for him or not. Don’t push him or try to form his personality, it won’t work and he could end up hating you. What is wrong with being an artist anyway – never did Monet, Van gogh, Titian, Michael Angelo any harm! Love him he’s just a little boy.

Being artistic and creative does not mean he’s homosexual, for pete’s sake. Not all boys are aggressive monsters who try to attack everything. I made mine do sports a couple of years (t-ball, track, soccer), which he hated, and then in 4th grade he joined band, which has worked out fine for him. He also enjoys bike riding, and has done some long-distance riding, etc. Don’t be so hung up on stereotypes, or what you percieve "boys should like." It will just make him feel bad, and encourage him to pursue his interests. Art is not sin. Forcing him to do activities he hates will only ruin your relationship with him and push him away. And enjoying art doesn’t mean he wants to pursue a career as an artist. There are lots of boys out there who are sensitive, artistic, and not homosexual. SNAP OUT OF IT.

Also, my husband was pushed by his dad into sports, which he hated and was terrible at anyway. He still has emotional issues about the disappointment he always saw in his father’s eyes because he didn’t turn out to be a jock like his dad. He still remembers the shame and embarrasment he felt when he was made fun of by the other football players for not being good enough, and even his dad turned away from him. He was, however, extremely talented in music, which they just tolerated. Don’t screw up your relationship with your son because of how you want him to turn out. He may be using art as a way of expressing his feelings, and it could be very destructive to prevent him from having that as an outlet. Kids that age also get really focused on certain things that sometimes fade away as they get older. Why don’t you try encouraging him, and even see what happens if you do some art WITH him. It’s more important for him to know that you love him and accept him if you don’t want him to go looking for male acceptance in other ways in the future.

How is it unfortunite that he is the most creative kid in the class? that is a wonderful thing to hear and you should be proud of your son. Let him be what he wants to or you will push him in the direction of hateing you. Being an artist is a wonderful thing, and male artists are the best type of guy out there! That does not make him gay or certainly not perverted!!
where did that come from?? sports and action figures are pointless and raise the male ego way to high, children like this are obnoxius. You can buy him all the baseballs you want to, but your son is going to be what he wants to be and you should accept him for that.

oh and another thing an artist is one of the best jobs out there, and it is not good to bring you son down about wanting to be something. i want to be a writer someday and it raelly hurts when people say that writing is not a real job and there is no money in it. people do the same things to artists and it is not fair. please change your outloook.

There’s no connection between your son’s preferences and homosexuality. Let him find his own way. Love him, support him, give him opportunities to grow. He has a long way to go before he starts making real school/career choices, and may grow to become interested in something else completely. Besides, being an artist is a real job and is useful in many career fields. Be proud of his skills, which come, in part, from you.

Wait… your son is "the most creative kid" in his teachers class, and you think that’s UNFORTUNATE and makes him GAY? Are you serious? You don’t approve of artists, so that means that you don’t have any art hanging up in your home? You think Picasso, Dali, Monet, all of them were waisting their lives, and were homosexual? GET REAL! Why do you want to change who your son is? Accept the fact that he is a great artist, and very creative, accept that he doesnt play sports, and move on! That DOES NOT make him gay. It is sad that his own parents don’t accept him for who he is. Drawing and painting is not sin, and neither is being homosexual. I mean, maybe 2 thousand years ago, homosexuality was considered wrong, but times have changed. Our society has been understanding, and in the bible it says "Whatever you hold true on Earth, I’ll hold true in Heaven." That means, if we, on Earth, believe it is okay to be homosexual, and okay to accept those that are, God will accept it as well. Your son deserves to be loved unconditionally, he deserves to have a mother and a father that accept everything about him. He’s still a kid, let him be!

At 7 years old, most kids still believe in "cooties", not wanting to have sex with someone, same sex or opposite. Let him be him.

You can stop dragging him to church. Studies show that parents who drag their kids to church and talk about "sin" all the time end up with gay men who lack the ability to express it and like to pick people off with rifles atop tall towers.

Well…. To my opinion you can’t do anything. If your son chooses an artistic view on his childhood there is nothing wrong with that or him. He isn’t into sports or any "boyish" activities right now?? Does that make him less of a boy or male, no. If in the future, he decides on his own, that he will go the homosexual way, he is still your son. Period. Let’s forget about morals and sins. He is still your son. Let him live. Trust me, him being gay at 7 is the least you will have to worry about.

Hey Dad! Do I detect a sexist here. Don’t discriminate against your son because of his sexual orientation. You should be proud of your 7 year old son. Be proud that he is creative. That’s the problem with kids these days – they are tuned in to so many electronic devised that their creativity is suppressed. It’s the creative people who has the most to offer the world. Be proud of your son and encourage him in all his pursuits.

A boy not liking sports doesn’t mean he’s homosexual!!!! My son doesn’t like sports. He’s 13 and he doesn’t like boys. He likes to draw a little, too. What is wrong with your son being a professional artist? Maybe someday he’ll be a famous architect. I will support my son with whatever he wants to do with his life. I urge you to do the same. Forcing him into sports is only going to make him hate them more. And keeping his drawing material away form him will only make him want them more. Keep both things where he can get to them and let him make his own choices. You make your own choices, right? As long as you let him know how you feel about things, you really can’t control your son’s life. I know. I’ve tried. My kids are 13 and 16 and have different views on life than I do. Your son will have different views than you do. Just support him in whatever he decides to do.

in my christian perspective i would say just teach him, take him to a good school and let hium understand that his parent wants good for him and not bad,

my brother was like this too- he loves music and cant getr seperated through this; my mom doesnt want him to go in that direction because there is alot of bad stuff in that like drugs, a million girl friends and fights and other things but she helped him and he’s not a bad kid @ all =]

    you have lost your minds!!!

Being creative has nothing to do with being homosexual!

And forcing him to participate in sports is no guarantee that he will be straight. Ask the thousands of gay players across the board in sports worldwide.

many commercial and graphic artists are MEN who are totally straight, have families and devoted wives and are gainfully employed as illustrators of magazines, books, and periodicals. Many cartoonists are also creative males and in each of these venues, the artists make A LOT of money.
Men who draw are simply using a gift from GOD to feed themselves and their families in the same way an athlete or a newspaper reporter does.

by the way, it DOESN’T matter what other people say. I get the idea some idiot told you that a creative boy was gay. Maybe it was even said of YOU. If you are this concerned, perhaps you need to check out a fear of latent homosexuality in YOURSELF.

Your son is a CHILD – don’t put something on him out of your fear that isn’t there.

Your son is who HE is…..NOT who YOU want him to be. You should be proud of his talents! What a wonderful compliment his teacher gave him! And you can’t even be thankful for that? Shame on you!

Being a good artist has nothing to do with what his sexual preferences will be when he is older. Not liking sports has nothing to do with it either. It is just part of who he is and what he likes.

As a parent, you really need to accept him for who he is and stop trying to change him.

Oh grow up…what’s wrong with a boy that likes to draw and paint? There are LOTS of males who have a knack for art and they all aren’t gay. His teacher UNFORTUNATELY said he’s the most creative? That is a terrific compliment. What the hell are you smoking? Do some research on the most famous male artists and find out if they’re homosexual. I think someone needs to see a shrink and get their head out of their ass…What would happen if he turned out gay? Would you disown him and stop loving him? What’s a real job to you? Working at McDonald’s for like $5/hr? If this kid has talent, he can become a computer graphics designer or something else of that nature and make a lot of money. By trying to change who your child is you are risking alienating him later in life. He will never feel that he is good enough because he doesn’t meet your expectations of how a boy "should" be. Being forced to be someone he’s not runs the risk of having low self-esteem, low grades and anti-social behavior. Being creative is a wonderful thing. Accept who your son is. Being creative does not mean he’s a homosexual. It just means he uses his brain more than his brawn. Even if he were homosexual he’s your son. Love him for who he is.

Just because he’s creative and likes to paint doesnt
have anything to do with being homosexual.
I think you’re not being fair to your son.
Everyone is different in their own perspective. dont judge.

And if he is homosexual, oh well.
its a totally 100% normal thing.
    Its not a sin.
I know i know…you’re probably thinkin "god made boys to like girls and girls to likes boys"
    well its different now.
    Let people be.
You cannot change who he is or what he wants to be.

Dont be immature and actin like being homosexual is a unatrual thing.
Because it isnt and most people would know that.
    Its not a sin either.
Does the bible say "being homosexual or bein gay is a sin?"
    NO! It doesnt.

Be a supporting mother and be good to the boy.
    Support him.
He’s creative, he’s most likely to have a high IQ or gpa when he hits high school.

Love your child unconditionally!!! Encourage his artistic pursuits!!!!!
You have very unrealistic expectations as a a parent.
He will have a miserable life if he has to live up to your expectations.
If you could never accept him as an artist or as a homosexual you should never have had a child!!!! I’m not saying that he is going to be, and the fact that he does not enjoy sport and loves art does not have anything to do with his sexual orientation. I also believe that a persons sexuality is NOT a choice, it is determined at the time of conception, nor do I believe that homosexuals are any different than anyone else.

Please change your attitude towards your Son and allow him to be himself, and encourage him to draw if that is what he enjoys doing. Praise his work and see how how happy it makes him that you like his work. I’d have his artwork up all over my walls if he was my son!!! Love your son, enjoy your son, and support him in his artistic pursuits.

For one thing, homosexuals are not automatically perverted pedophiles who will rape anyone who is the same gender as them. They are just normal people who like people of the same gender as opposed to the opposite. They are just as likely to harass someone sexually as any straight person.

For another thing, I can see that you are a religious person. God and Jesus taught that you should accept EVERYONE, even if there are some things in the bible against homosexuality, the bible contradicts itself many times over.

Another thing, just because your kid doesn’t like sports and violence, doesn’t mean he’s gay. It might just mean that’s he’s more sensitive than other kids. WHen I was little, I didn’t like barbies or fashion, and I’m straight.

Give you kid a break, and go reread the bible.

My son wasn’t into sports or action figures. He enjoyed drawing and art. I bought him lots of art supplies, paper, whatever he needed. I support all of his interests. I not only offered hockey and soccer but also offered ballet and figure skating. None of which he was interested in.

He is now 15 and is heterosexual in every way! Girl crazy actually. But if he wasn’t, well that would be okay too. It is more important to me to support my children’s talents and interests then to spend my time worrying about their sexual orientation. Just because I might not be comfortable with the fact that one of them could grow up to be homosexual does not make it a bad thing or them bad people.

Taking his drawing and art supplies away is very cruel. You are showing him that you do not love him for who he is. You are setting the standard that you will only love him if he chooses what you want.

And what makes you think that all male artists are homosexual anyway????

I know a famous artist, Diego Rivera, who I learned about in my Spanish 2 class and he has a devoted wife and has never been gay and he became very successful, so there is nothing wrong with being creative and there is nothing wrong with being gay.

BAKA! BAKA BAKA BAKA! I am a male and a artist. a culinary artist but still an artist. the best artists in history were all male. but just because I am a artist does not mean that I am gay. I am NOT gay at all. I see that life style as a SIN aganist my GOD. let your son be an artist.

I have an uncle that is a great composer/musian in NY, that is a form of art it self. if your son wants to go into the feild of art then let him.

you are one of the worst BAKAs I have ever heard of.

let me guess you are were a jock in school? but you aren’t now and you want to live vicariously through your child. well that’s a tough one. I will tell you that it took an artist to design your favorite teams Jersey and their team logo, as well as a landscaper to get their football Field to grow correctly, what about the mascots keeper, they must like animals. ;last I looked the history of the Superbowl tickets are some of the most desired paintings of the sports world. besides just cause he isn’t a quarterback now doesn’t mean that he will be a cheerleader later. (no offense to male cheerleaders).
I have 4 kids 2 boys 2 girls, my boys are very different. one like sports the other walks around with a hairbrush and his sisters dolls all the time. but bottom line they are BOTH MY SONS> I WILL LOVE THEM NO MATTER WHAT!!!! I hated sports growing up but I am not gay, one of my friends in school loved sports now they dance in pink….. sports don’t make the man.

I just answered another question about you.

What’s your problem against gays. Seriously. I sure as h*** hope that your son does not turn out to be gay, because you are going to be the worst parent ever. I’m sure you’re going to be abusive to him and mean.

Creativity is a great thing, RATHER YOU’RE MALE OR FEMALE… For your sake, look at all the creative people in the world who arn’t gay… Johnny Depp for one, music artists, actresses, painters, poets, Edgar Allen Poe was not gay. So many of these people. Just because you arn’t interested in sports….

Again, I said this before, when you chose to be straight is when the homosexuals chose to be gay… So, I’m sure you son woke up the other morning and thought "Wow, I think I’m going to be gay today".

    You’re an idiot.
