Affirmative action a necessity or disguised racism?
It is just that i asked this question the other day and one of the users on Y!A said that affirmative action is necessary because of minority(especially blacks) stats compared to whites, and that in order to get rid of the prejudice that is attained by these stats we must proceed with affirmative action to even them up. But I really doubt that the reasons us blacks have such stats is because of financial reasons, or the fact that we come up short most of the times because we compete with more whites for college or job positions. I just think that we blacks are just focusing on the wrong things nowadays, like for instance at least 60% of the wealthy black teenagers I met didn’t bother to go to college and instead are trying to pursue careers in entertainment or sports. And unfortunately at least half of the academically gifted ones i know don’t bother to pursue any significant higher education or careers neither. I really think that affirmative action is not giving anyone any significant benefits, instead it is denying hardworking people from positions they are qualified for and the real reason us blacks have such poor stats is really because of what most of us(especially youths) are prioritizing over education these days.
Please tell me your opinions on this.
Yes, but the government wants to break that cycle. When young blacks aren’t educated, they don’t prioritize the right things, so they don’t get good jobs, and their children don’t become educated, and the cycle goes on. We need to get as many blacks into decent colleges to break that cycle. It’s not exactly the governments fault, and it isn’t exactly the black people’s fault for the statistic.

Nope, a huge reason for the poor stats is really because of the shameful disparities among schools throughout the nation that show more black students doing poorly compared to whites. And those schools are in such a dismal state because of segregation and denied opportunities to get decent jobs, which would have allowed for the financial upkeep of the schools. Some black teenagers are prioritizing the wrong things (especially the wealthy kids), but it’s not as simple as you think.
Plus, black people and other minorities don’t even receive as much benefits from AA as white women do, so it’s an…interesting system (more like a rigged system, but whatever.)

i personally think, as an Asian woman, that affirmative action is a sham. it is just a way to make people who aren’t white men that they will always have a spot. even when they might not even qualify.
