Are the Super Mario games platformers, action games, or adventure games?
My friend and I cannot agree of this. I think the games are platformers, but he thinks they’re adventure games. Bear in mind that we are talking about the Super Mario series (no Mario sports games, paint, karts, rpgs, or dance games).

Mario games have always been defined as platformers. Nintendo, IGN, everyone has been calling Mario games that.
"New Super Paper Mario, it’s a Terrific Platformer!!!" etc…

Super Mario are adventure games, action games would consist of explostions, and some guns or weapons like swords; etc. Mario has a story and missions to reach a certain goal which is the elements of an adventure game.

Well you go on an adventure but you definately have some action in them. But, they are not quite as wild as some lately. They are a lot of fun !!!!

I know for sure that some of them are action games and adventure games but I dont think that they are platformer games.

Mario games are pretty much the definition of platformers. Games like shenmue or discworld would be considered adventure games.
