I got Nikon D90 with 18-55mm lens. What is others lens that I should have?

December 30th, 2012 3 comments

I am new to SLR camera and just got my new Nikon D90 with 18-55mm lens. Need suggestion to get my next lens. I wanted to shot potraits and close-up image and also my relative wedding photo soon.

It depends.

If you want to include action, sports and wildlife in your subjects, the next lens will either be the 55-200 mm to extend your reach or a 18-200 mm VR which will replace the lens you have now and add the additional extension to your cameras view in one lens

If you are into shooting landscapes, the 10-24 mm lens will be your best bet.

If you love shooting things like flowers close up, the 60 mm macro will be a good choice.

As you can see, you have to define your subjects before anyone can really suggest a "next" lens to you.

Im looking to buy this camera and use it for semi professional video?

Canon VIXIA HF S21
What all will I need for it as in accessories and equipment?
Im thinking like a shotgun mic, a stabilizer, and some sort of lens/light guard, list some names and models if you suggest any thing.

The camera will be used to film 4×4 truck racing/sports.

Personally, I would not depend on a AVCHD compression (consumer) camcorder to get good high-quality fast-action video. For fast action, you *should* be using a low-compression video format (like DV, HDV, HDCAM, XDCAM, DVCPRO-DVCPRO HD).

I also prefer stereo separation with audio – and while shotgun mics are good for dialog (like interviews), using them when a race – and the associated audio – moves from one side to the other will be… um… interesting (and decent stereo shotgun mics are expensive – check Sennheiser and Audio Technica).

The Canon HF S21 is a fine consumer-grade cam. Using flash memory, there are fewer moving parts so the battery lasts longer than if the video storage media is miniDV tape. But an optional high capacity battery from Canon is a good idea.

A stabilizer? Like a shoulder mount or a "SteadiCam" or "Glidecam" vest system? Or just the handheld stabilizer?

A "lens/light guard"? Sorry – I don’t understand… a lens hood? I don’t think that is necessary for this level of camcorder. It won’t do much to improve the video.

Where will the camcorder be located?
How will the lighting be? Are all races during good, bright, daylight? You need to plan for the worst lighting conditions.

What is meant by "semi professional"?

I do video for a hobby – and use a Sony HDR-FX1…

Do I need to go to college to own a photography business?

December 30th, 2012 6 comments

I have a passion for photography. I’m in my early 20’s I really want to own a photography business. Do any of you own a photography business? Did you go to school for it? Any ideas, suggestions would be a great help Thanks for your time!

You don’t need a college degree. What you do need is (a) a good portfolio of your work, (b) a rock solid business plan and (c) enough capital to get the additional goods & services you need to launch and to keep the doors open during the first few months while you’re still building a customer base.

The business plan should identify who your target customers are, e.g. going after weddings in or near your home town vs. sports action photography…you get the idea. Who are they? How many of them are there? What are their buying habits? What do they read and watch (for placing advertising)? Etc. It should also identify your competition: who are they? How many of them are there? What sources of competitive advantage do you have over them, e.g. lower prices, specialization in some type of photography, etc.

It should also explain what you’ve got, what you need and how you’ll pay for it.

It needs to include your marketing plan: How will you reach your customers and bring them back for repeat business? (Hint: personal selling)

How do I get into a good college?

December 30th, 2012 4 comments

I just started my freshman year and I know it’s early but now is when I have to take action. I want to get into a good college badly but I feel like I just don’t have the motivation. What are things that could get me motivated to try harder? And also what are good things that I can do that would look good on a application?

No, you’re actually really smart for wanting to start NOW and try and get into a good college, especially since college’s only look from your freshman year to your senior year.

-Study!
I know sometimes it can be really boring and you can procrastinate and put it off, but seriously, study a little bit of everything every night. You don’t have to study each thing for like 2 hours, but just enough till you feel comfortable with it. You always want to know the material well enough to where if you walk into the classroom and have a pop quiz, you won’t worry because you’ll feel confident.

-Keep your absences to a minimum!
Trust me. This is an important factor, just for the simple fact that if you miss a lesson or certain material, you can try and study and learn it yourself [like makeup work], but you’ll never quite really "get it" as much if you were actually there.

-Extracurricular Activities!
Sports, CLUBS [those are usually really easy], a job, etc. Colleges don’t just want people who are smart, they want people who can manage other things all the while, be able to maintain good grades.

Just imagine. If you start now and do your hardest at everything, once you see your good grades, you’ll be amazed at how that alone will motivate you. Imagine all the SCHOLARSHIPS you could get for college. That is a great feeling knowing you got into college for FREE based on YOUR hard work and dedication. That really is something to be proud of!

Best of luck! 🙂

Should I make a paintball park in Chiefland, Florida?

December 30th, 2012 2 comments

I wanted to start my own paintball park. I know it costs money and you need a contract with the city, but should I make a paintball park in Chiefland? I don’t know if people living there will want to play paintball and I don’t want my money to go to waste.
Look, I know I need to buy paintbLL equipment, but I just want to know if anyone thinks the people in Chiefland will play paintball.

According to USA Today, Paintball is the fastest growing action sport in the US. From a financial standpoint I think anyone who is opening a paintball field is likely to do well. At this time I would say if you are ANYWHERE near people, you stand a good chance of being successful. I personally am willing to travel (and frequently do) as far as a 8 hour drive to get to a good field or game. I don’t think I’m alone in that. Good luck and I say "Go For It!"

What kind of sport motorcycle would best fit a 21 year old who has just finished the RiderCourse.?

December 30th, 2012 9 comments

before last thursday I never rode a motorcycle. I passed the course and now I need to know what kind of sport bike would best fit me. Im 6-1 and I don’t want to look like a monster on a pocket size motorcycle. Also which bike would be best to visit my hometown (165 miles from current location). I’ve done extreme sports (boxing, dirt bike, snowboarding, etc) all my life so I’m not afraid of size or control.

I’m in the exact same boat as you, from what I’ve noticed its hard to take someone’s opinion with any merit. This is because only you know what your capable of. Its easier to get a straight answer from someone if you ask about a specific bike. Looks play a role in my decision as well as ergo, comfort, weight, and power. I like the V-twin engines instead of the i-4’s, but those super sport bikes can be found cheap because owners get scared riding them or decide motorcycling isn’t for them after they drop it once.
I’ve tried 6 different bikes in my testing ‘the waters’ experience, as most of my riding has been on dirt. Honestly if your going to get a super sport bike, get one, you don’t need any validation from someone here at yahoo, but if you want my opinion and you have some time, research a little bit. I’ve joined the gixxerforum and the svforum (Google them). Some other people have some really good ideas about moding their bikes to specifically suit them. The ninja 250’s seem to small, at least to me and at 6’1 probably yourself too, and I would say the ninja 500 but I think their really 90’s looking (in a bad way).
After everything I’ve heard and been recommended; not to mention lectured about over the past few months I’m most likely going to get the sv650 used. Its a vertical twin cylinder, standard seating position (better for longer rides), with lots of low end power and torque. Once I’ve put 10k miles on it then I’ll consider one of the super sport bikes, because as much as I like to think I’m ready for one; It’s smarter that I don’t. Check out the ducati monster as well, its a cool looking naked style bike.

Ways to incorporate "Action" (the theme) into a Yearbook?

December 30th, 2012 1 comment

I need some help coming up with a general layout theme idea for this years yearbook. The theme is "action", but it is not related to Action Sports, or the phrase "lights, camera, action". It basically is supposed to represent the ‘act’ of doing, and our own actions, etc. I’ve been trying to come up with something reoccurring throughout the yearbook that reflects the theme, but I have had no luck. Any idea/suggestions would be greatly appreciated (i’ve also made the covers too, so you dont have to relate it to the cover).

-Thanks

Take it from the Duck Tales theme song: lasers, race cars, airplanes. Also throw in motorcycles, explosions, and a flipbook thingy in the corner for the page numbers. Put flipbooks in all the corners. Finally, add some animals like monkeys and dogs, and healthy food (because apparently, that’s popular with parents of obese children). You’ll do well.
