What would be the best camera for filming fast action sports?

by admin on February 14, 2012

I know that image stabilization, quick shutter speed, & continuous shooting are the most important keys to this.(how do I find out which cameras have these 3 qualities?) And is an SLR really necessary? Especially when you want a really good zoom or is the step down or even compact possible? My budget is around $600, any suggestions?

I think an SLR is needed. Especially if image quality is a concern and you don’t want to deal with shutter lag.

$600 is not much. Put most of that coin in a very good lens and then spend the balance on a D70s or something like that.

Are they outdoor or indoor sports?

If it’s just outdoor stuff, you could use a P&S like a Nikon P90, around 300.00 on sale.

If it’s indoor, you’ll need a Tokina 80-200 2.8 zoom lens and something like a Nikon D70s. The gold ring version (don’t get red ring one, it’s not as well designed) will run around 350.00, and a used D70s around 200.00.

A DSLR is always a better choice, image quality, selection of glass and high ISO performance. For outdoor stuff, it’s not as critical to have a DSLR, just better.
